Have you ever...

  • Wanted to add the same location in your database to multiple projects, without duplicating the file?
  • Wanted to see a history of every project you've ever considered a single location on?
  • Wanted an easy way to add a location to multiple places at the same time?

Prefer watching a demo than reading instructions? Watch this.

With SuperScout you can do all of the above and more, with our "Collections" and "Projects" systems

You can think of these systems as smart folders.

  • Like normal folders on your computer or Dropbox, you can put folders inside folders, for as many layers down as you like.

  • Unlike normal folders, you can put one single location, into as many of these collection and project folders as you want.

Which means:

  • No more duplicates
  • No more deciding whether a house with a swimming pool should be in houses, or swimming pools - on SuperScout it can be in both.
  • No more updating one duplicate location with essential information and having to try and find the other versions to update, or trying to remember that info in your head

Simply add one location into as many folder as you want, and when you update a location, it updates everywhere, all at once.

Read on to learn how to organise your locations with smart folders.

How to create a collection or project.

  1. Go into the relevant section and click "+ New ..."
(button in the top right of the page)

OR

2. if you're adding a single location to a smart folder, you can choose to create a new folder instantly.
"+ New" button in bottom left of that view.

And once your main folder is created, you can create subfolders.

Collections are designed for types of places. For example:

  • Residential
    • Detached houses
    • Terraced houses
    • Apartments/flats
    • Farms
  • Projects help you keep track of a single project and all location options within it. You can structure the folders however you want but here's an idea of how some people are using it:
    • Reservoir dogs
      • Warehouse
        • Selects
        • Rejects
        • New scouts
      • Diner
      • Streets
      • Rooftop
      • Office
      • Bathroom
      • Club

At every layer, you can add cover images to make your folders more visually appealing:

  • Either by selecting one of the cover images of a subfolder or location within that folder.
  • OR by uploading a completely custom image, so you can add relevant posters for your projects, or concept art for your location groups.

Organise your locations with smart folders

At any part of this process, you can easily add & remove your locations within these collections and projects.

Editing one collection or project, but adding/removing locations in bulk

Anytime you're browsing collections / projects, simply click "edit locations" and you can select any you want to add or de-select any you want to remove

  • Selected options are marked with a purple border

When you're on search, click the little + button on every location to reveal which folders that location is already added to, and to add the selected location to more.

Here's an example of what you'd see when you click the + button on a location. This location has been added directly to the folder "Test Project" & has also been added to one of the subfolders within Gentleman s2, Assassin's Creed, Tron, and Andor

Sharing your collection/project outside of your account

You have the ability to create "share links" of every collection or project. These are public facing links, where you can share options with directors, producers, or colleagues, in a unique link they can access from any device. But that system requires its own blog post (coming soon).

Thank yous

We created the smart folder system originally based on feedback from all our customers, but I have to shout out two particular requests that take the system to the next level:

  • Tom Howard (location manager) suggested we split them into two dedicated sections. Originally they were all under Collections, but having them separated makes a lot more sense.
  • Oli Laurenson-Gore (location manager) requested the ability to see which projects a single location has already been added to.
